Build a Digital Campaign One Decision at a Time

A campaign often gets harder when its first decision is “Which platform should we use?” Start earlier: name the audience, the change you hope to make, and the message that could help. Those choices give every later task a reason to be there.

Start with a real audience

Audience research does not need to begin with a large survey. Read the questions people ask in customer emails, support conversations, or relevant online communities, then note the problems that come up repeatedly. A useful audience description is specific enough to guide a message, such as “people comparing their first email platforms,” rather than “anyone interested in business.”

Choose one campaign goal

Set a goal that describes an observable action: visiting a resource page, requesting a consultation, or signing up for a newsletter. Then decide how you will recognize that action, such as a completed form or a tracked link. This keeps a campaign focused when new ideas and channel suggestions start arriving.

Match the channel to the task

A search result can help someone who is already looking for an answer, while a social post can introduce a useful idea to people who were not actively searching. Choose based on where the audience is likely to encounter the message and what the campaign asks them to do. Sketch a short content plan with the message, channel, and next step for each piece before you begin publishing.
